Meet the Team

Presidents’ Messages

Hi, and welcome!

Thanks so much for taking the time to learn more about the University of Michigan’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. This club started from a simple idea: there should be a space on campus where students interested in M&A can actually learn how deals work while being part of a supportive, motivated community.

As a current freshman at Michigan, I’m still in the middle of navigating campus, attending info sessions, and meeting students with all kinds of interests in finance, consulting, and business. While there are many great organizations here, I noticed there wasn’t a place fully dedicated to learning about mergers and acquisitions in a clear, hands-on, and approachable way. That gap is what inspired me to start this club.

Our goal is to make M&A feel accessible rather than intimidating. Through case studies, workshops, speaker events, and collaborative projects, members will learn how to think about valuation, deal strategy, and the broader impact of transactions. Just as importantly, we’re focused on building a community where people feel comfortable asking questions, learning together, and growing at their own pace.

Whether you’re just starting to explore finance or already interested in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development, this club is meant to meet you where you are. I’m incredibly excited about what we’re building and hope you’ll join us as we grow this organization from the ground up.

Thanks again for your interest — I look forward to meeting you.

Best,
Lorena Volpe
President

Hi all!

I really appreciate your interest in joining Michigan Mergers and Acquisitions Group. We are delighted to introduce the University of Michigan’s premier M&A student-led organization. I am looking forward to going into more depth about deal structure and valuation with you all, and help you with the essentials pack to make a successful M&A pitch.

As a junior and co-president of MMAG, my goal is to facilitate your learning process, provide accessible resources to better your understanding about the financial services industry, connect you with dedicated people who can elevate your background, and strengthen foundations that help you place into high finance through feedback, leadership opportunities and high-level mock interviews.

A sense of community is something the executive board and I heavily embrace. With all of our member establishing similar goals at all times, we are able to remain a tight-knit group. We collaborate on projects, help one another prepare for big events, and collectively celebrate each others’ successes. We can not wait to welcome new faces and personalities to our group on a semester basis.

As Lori mentioned, your intellectual curiosity is your biggest asset here. This is a place for you to explore your interest through new knowledge, participation and proactiveness, therefore we highly advise you to seize this opportunity and push yourself to expand your skillset, and connect with new backgrounds. All this will help open new doors, whether it is through professional opportunities or personal discovery.

We are excited about what is next, and can not wait to have you onboard. Thank you all for your interest.

Best,
Nicolas Volpe
President
